Our service focuses on assessment of a person’s driving skills, the nature of the driving tasks they need to perform, and the impact that their medical conditions, disability or injury may have on safe driving.
Services
Specialist screening evaluations used as predictors of on-road performance in the following areas:

cognitive processes and interactions necessary to drive and to overcome problems

visual and visual perceptual skills required to perceive environmental information, recall information, and plan and perform driving tasksÂ

senses required for appropriate motor response to drive a vehicle

road rule knowledge and application.

Specialist on-road driving assessment to determine what is acceptable decline (compensated by the person’s experience and self-imposed limitations on when and where they may drive) and what is irreversible and hazardous deterioration in driving skills. Occupational Therapists work closely with Driving Instructors. Assessments are conducted in a Driving Instructors vehicle with dual brakes and necessary modifications/adaptive controls.Â

Development of driver remediation programs including training, vehicle aids and modifications.

Advice in vehicle selection, vehicle modifications and adaptive controls.

Consultation with General Practitioners, Medical Specialists and The Department for Infrastructure and Transport regarding driving status and licensing recommendations.

Driving Cessation Counselling.
Criteria for Referral
Referral to be completed by a medical officer.
